Blades of the Deathsong

According to legend, the Blades of the Deathsong are three swords forged for three sorcerer-kings during the War of Light and Darkness. These sorcerers wished to lengthen their lives, and while these swords accomplished that, they also absorbed the souls of the sorcerers. Whoever wields the swords now is inevitably taken over by the sword. The blades sow death in their wake, and a plague follows after them that causes its victims to scream in agony.

There are three swords: Mourning, Death and Despair. The Sword of Mourning is in Tizmet, and its current wielder took part in the destruction of Thentia. One of the other swords is known to be in Vashra. The location of the third was unknown.

The Broken Talon guild, having received word that there was a sword in a fortress in the Eastern Darklands that could help them in their upcoming battles, found and took the weapon. Although the paladin, Quentin, had taken the sword, Damien ended up wielding it. For several weeks, the true nature of the sword was unknown. During the final confrontation with his father, Damien realized that the sword he had was one of the Blades of the Deathsong. He is the only person in living memory to have broken ties with a Sword and live.
